A link farm is nothing more than a web page or a blog links to other sites without considering the content relations. Link farms came out in 1999 by search engine optimizers. The idea is to increase the number of websites linked to a website. The reason of using link farms is to increase the PageRank of a website so it could get better rankings in the search engines.

Google considers link farms as spams and punishes sites that have link farm pages. If you are involved in a link farm, Google may lower the PageRank of your website or remove your content from the search engine index by placing your site in the sandbox.
